Cellulite Treatments

Paraffin Therapy

Paraffin Therapy uses a mixture of paraffin wax and dehydrated mud. It is a perfect combination for cellulite treatment and speeding inch loss, due to the thermal properties of paraffin and detoxifying effect of the mud.

During a treatment, the warm paraffin stimulates the lymphatic flow in the body and draws out toxins from around the fat cells, giving immediate noticeable results.

Parafango Massage Treatment for Cellulite. Overview.

Most women have cellulite, so it is no surprise that there is a long list of remedies seeking to "cure" this condition. While cellulite isn't a serious medical condition, orange-peel skin on the hips, buttocks or thighs can make a woman feel self-conscious. Treatments range from creams women can use at home to surgical procedures to spa treatments. One option that brings women to spas is the parafango massage treatment for cellulite.

Identification

Parafango is a combination of paraffin and fango. Paraffin is a waxy substance that is often used to make candles. It is melted and used in spa treatments to provide penetrating warmth and trap moisture and heat in skin. Fango is a therapeutic clay mud that most often comes from the hot springs in Battaglio, Italy. Products, such as cellulite cream, are sometimes applied under paraffin when it is used without the fango, according to Anne Williams, author of "Spa Bodywork: A Guide for Massage Therapists."

Significance

Parafango's heat retention properties have made it popular in cellulite treatment in the United States, advises Williams. It's used in problem areas to take off inches because the heat is longer-lasting than hydrotherapy packs, which may lose heat within a half hour. In contrast, parafango keep the target area warm for about an hour. The heat from parafango is purported to increase lymph flow and circulation to an area and to help draw out toxins. It also causes perspiration in the area and helps a person's body absorb cellulite creams that are placed underneath.

Time Frame

Parafango massage treatment for cellulite is not a one-time cure, though some spas say clients will see some difference after the initial visit. Some spas recommend parafango care two to three times a week, with a minimum of 10 total sessions to produce results, while others say a series of five treatments will produce optimal results. Treatments generally last at least an hour.

Use

The method for using parafango in conjunction with a cellulite massage treatment has several steps, Williams advises. A full body exfoliation is done before cellulite cream is applied to target areas. The parafango is applied over the cellulite cream with a large paintbrush-like applicator. The person is then covered in plastic wrap. Alternately, gauze strips can be dipped in the parafango and wrapped onto the body. The person then receives a massage to the face or feet before the parafango is removed. Firming cream is then massaged into the person's target areas.

Considerations

Sanitation is an important consideration for therapists who administer parafango massage treatments. Therapists need to sanitize product bottles and other equipment so that infectious pathogens that get on the therapists hands during a foot massage, for example, are not passed on to the next client, according to Williams.
